Description : The Gallery is showing around fifty red-chalk drawings : intimate and elegant scenes, so characteristics of the century of Enlightenment, by Trinquesse and Carmontelle, sheets with bold strokes, such as those by Pierre and Parrocel, têtes d'expression by Greuze, and Roman landscpaes by Hubert Robert.
The exhibition includes numerous red-chalk preparatory studies for paintings, medals, engravings and sculpture, but also drawings "after" done by young artists at the Académie de France in Rome, and includes studies of the nude or the draped figure drawn from the live model.
The sheets show the different use of the medium red-chalk : on its own, with wash, and together with black and white chalk, a technique also known as "trois crayons"
